Passion & Pre-Company

What is "Passion" all about?

“Passion” is what it’s all about if you are interested in being on a competitive dance team where the #1 goal is TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT DANCE. To set and achieve competitive goals in dance, you must have an extreme passion for it and be encouraged by others who are passionate as well. At Centrestage, we offer a competitive program where we hope to encourage, positively direct and deepen the already created passion to learn, perform, perfect, and grow in the exciting arena of dance. There are hundreds of competitions in operation throughout the United States, and we carefully choose the ones that we feel meet the standards and needs of Centrestage. Competitions give our dancers an opportunity to perform and compete as well as grow with others who share our passion, in a positive and friendly atmosphere. We do not go to competitions for the single purpose of “winning”, but for the overall experience. We don’t feel that in a subjective art form like dance there could ever be a winner or loser. We go to competitions because they are a great learning tool and because the kids love it!

When and how often are competitions held?

Our Passion teams compete in approximately five competitions per season. The competition schedules come out in August at which time we will create our schedule for the season. Sometimes attached to competitions are dance conventions which are a week-end event where master teachers from across the nation hold classes. Not only do participants get to see other dancers from other studios, they also get to see great professional dancers, at the top of their field, perform and teach. These master teachers inspire young dancers as well as give them great role models. Dancers attend classes in jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, ballet and an audition for national scholarships to other conventions, competitions or summer intensives, which are terrific learning tools for our dancers to expand their dance abilities and desire. Conventions also host a competition at night, where the master teachers comprise the panel of judges.

What are the costs?

Monthly tuition for the Passion team is $255 and is paid for twelve months. We will double the class time in June for choreography and class, to make up for the month of July being off. Regular season will start August 15, 2011. During the regular season, dancers will have approximately 10 hours of mandatory instruction per week (see schedule) as well as additional unlimited classes of your choice, which we encourage you to take full advantage of. (Mini Pearl & Pearl will have 6 hours of mandatory class per week at $215 monthly). There is a yearly financial commitment of approximately $3000 for costuming, choreography, entry fees and convention class fees. Competition dance is a very big commitment for both the dancer and the family. Please consider both the time and financial commitment before deciding to audition and don’t hesitate to call Jenny with any questions you may have!

Basic Skill Requirements

Dancers will be trained in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theatre, contemporary jazz and technique. All of the before mentioned areas of dance are important to the success of a Passion dancer. The skill and dedication required are extremely high, as the competition circuit has become increasingly competitive over the last few years. In order to stay competitive and have a positive experience, Passion competition teams are reserved for the highly experienced and elite dancers of Centrestage Dance Studio. All dancers interested in auditioning for the Passion teams must have a meeting with a parent and Jenny to discuss their individual readiness and goals for competition.

Pre-Company Teams

"Sizzlers"
"Bomb squad"
"Dynamite"

Starting in 2010-2011, Centrestage will be offering two pre-company teams which will be a springboard to both our Passion and Sundoll competition teams. The purpose behind these teams is to provide the instruction, experience, training and overall preparation to those dancers who are interested in joining a competition team the following year. These teams are also designed for those dancers who might not quite have all of the requirements for a Passion team, or are not quite ready for the time or financial commitments of competition.

Our pre-company teams will perform at most Centrestage performances (just like our Passion teams) and will experience competing in 3 competitions during the season. They will compete 2 dances (in the 3 competitions) which will require two additional costumes that they will be able to also use for some of the performances and the recital. All three of these teams are a privilege and an honor, and the members are expected to follow the same code of conduct and dedication as our Passion company teams.

We are extremely excited to offer this opportunity to our dedicated and talented dancers and are fully prepared to help them to be successful on these teams and a future on a Centrestage competitive team.
